Maia Barkaia
Maia Barkaia is an interdisciplinary scholar and Associate Professor at the Georgian Institute of Public Affairs (GIPA). Her research, drawing on (post)colonial history and gender studies, explores imperial entanglements in the Caucasus, artisanal epistemologies, borderlands histories and Soviet South-Global South relations. She co-edited Gender in Georgia (Berghahn Books) and is a founding member of the Movement for Social Democracy, born of the 2024 Tbilisi protests.
