Judith Beyer joined Allegra in 2013 and is currently part of an editorial team that explores how to make anthropology multimodal: across multiple media and towards a more engaged public anthropology. Judith specializes in political and legal anthropology. She conducts long-term ethnographic fieldwork in Central Asia (Kyrgyzstan), Southeast Asia (Myanmar) and increasingly in Europe. Her current thematic interests are: the concept of community, practices of traditionalization, statelessness and activism. Theoretically she is inspired by existential anthropology, ethnomethodology, and the work of Jacques Lacan.

Madeleine Reeves is a Senior Lecturer in Social Anthropology in the University of Manchester, UK, and Associate Editor of Central Asian Survey. She seeks to contribute to a critical anthropology of the post-Soviet state through a consideration of place, territory, transnational migration and border work, based on long-term ethnographic fieldwork in Kyrgyzstan and Russia.
