Samantha Vaughn is a doctoral candidate at Newcastle University. Her research centres on Communist history museums founded in Eastern Europe following the collapse of the regime, with particular interest in Polish and Czech institutions. She is most interested in the role these museums play in upholding the history and memory of Communism, as well as the way visitors engage with the messages written into exhibitions. Her previous work includes several years as an arts and culture journalist in Italy, where she encountered issues such as meaning making, technology in art, and visitor engagement.
