Verena Niepel is a doctoral candidate at Newcastle University. As a Northern Bridge DTP / AHRC funded PhD researcher she focuses on the field of art and migration, which she approaches from an interdisciplinary perspective. Particular interests lie in topics as visual culture, contemporary art and aesthetics in the context of migration (especially in Turkey and Germany), cultural policy and institutional structures, questions of power and identity, exhibition and curatorial strategies, to which she dedicates her academic work as well as publications as a freelance journalist for various online media.
