Shirin Naef
Shirin Naef, Dr. phil., is research associate at the Department of Social Anthropology and Cultural Studies at the University of Zurich, and research fellow at the Käte Hamburger Center for Advanced Study in the Humanities “Law as Culture” at the University of Bonn. She is currently working on her second book project Religion, Law and Economy: Philanthropy in Iran from Past to Present. Her theoretical and empirical research is in the field of anthropology and sociology of law and religion, and covers a range of topics including bioethics, kinship and reproduction, social history, drama and theatre, philanthropy, gift-giving, moral economy, as well as issues related to the Shia school of Islamic jurisprudence (fiqh) and its relation to modern legal concepts, morality and governance. Her regional focus is on Germany, Switzerland and Iran. She is the author of Kinship, Law and Religion: An Anthropological Study of Assisted Reproductive Technologies in Iran (Tübingen 2017).
