Paul Anderson is Associate Professor in the Department of Middle Eastern Studies at the University of Cambridge and Assistant Director of the University’s Centre of Islamic Studies. His research interests include the intersection of economic, cultural and political processes, with a focus on Syria and the Syrian diaspora, trade, migration and minorities. He has conducted research in Syria, Turkey, China, Armenia and the United States. His most recent book is Exchange Ideologies: Commerce, Language and Patriarchy in Preconflict Aleppo (Cornell University Press, 2023).
