Mukhtar Shehata was born in Minyat al-Murshid in Egypt in 1974. He is a novelist and filmmaker living and working in Alexandria. He is the author of La li al-Iskandariya (No to Alexandria, 2010), Muktaniza (Beautiful Voluptuous Woman, 2012) and Taghribat Bani Saber (The Journey of the Sons of Saber, 2014), and editor of Kuttab al-'Asema al-Sirriya (The Writers of the Secret Capital (2013).
