Mehmet Kurt is a British Academy Newton Advanced fellow at the School of Law at Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) and assistant professor of sociology at Bingol University. He has a BA in Theology (Dicle University, Turkey), an MA in Sociology of Religion (Selcuk University, Turkey) and a PhD in Sociology (Selcuk University, Turkey). He spent two years of his PhD research at Yale University Department of Anthropology and was accepted to the Summer Institute organised by the Columbia University Center for Oral History under the theme of ‘What is Remembered: Life Story Approaches in Human Rights Contexts’. His main research area is Islamism and Islamic social movements in the Middle East.
