Janet Perkins
Janet Perkins is a postdoctoral research fellow in Social Anthropology at the University of Edinburgh. As a social anthropologist with a professional and academic background in both the social sciences and global health/international development, her research brings an interdisciplinary perspective to the social and cultural dimensions of health and biomedical technologies, particularly in the areas of pregnancy and childbirth, toxicity, and global health practice. Her recent work examines the commodification and technologisation of childbirth in Bangladesh as embedded in social processes of value negotiation, shaped by and shaping moral, economic, and state-making projects of society more widely.
