Allegra editors wish you a happy new year!
Dear readers and Allies,
With authoritarianism on steroids, the multiplication of wars, the disappearance of the international law-based order and attacks on universities, it has been a tough year for everyone.
In spite of these trends, Allegra remains committed to cultivate its radically optimistic ethos. This year, we are particularly proud of several achievements:
- A partnership with Crossref and DOI referencing for all our publications. Kanchi already began the process and we hope to gradually assign DOIs to all our publications from 2020 to the present.
- After working as an editorial assistant, Elise joined the editorial team as book reviews editor. Thanks to her unwavering energy, she revitalised this aspect of the website, which had been somewhat neglected in the previous year. Fourteen reviews of recent books on the theme of ‘Settler Colonialism, Borders and Empire’ have been published this year.
- We organised three film screenings followed by discussions with their authors as part of our ANTHROKINO series.
- We published two Thematic Thread on ‘Recalibrating Syria’ and ‘Regulation Undone’ and 22 other standalone texts (essays, field notes, fiction) in the ‘One-Shots’ category.
And despite the increasing attacks on academic freedom, and because we believe it is the role of intellectuals to ask hard questions, Allegra continues to support democratic debate by providing a space for collective reflection on subjects that are sometimes considered sensitive or controversial.
We thank you for your continued trust and support and we wish you all the best for 2026!
