I’m glad to see that people are engaging with these kinds of issues and looking for ways of dealing with them. I personally think your initial note was excellent and would have been very helpful to raise awareness about predator scholars. The generic dedication, however, as you rightly remarked, really doesn’t do the job you intended to. I would love to see this conversation moving forward and really appreciate your efforts to open a discussion on this. Hopefully we will see more efforts like yours to address predator scholars openly and I hope academic journals will not stand in our ways to do so.

Which for me creates two problems. The first one is legal, and Elsevier seems to understand it perfectly. Yes, I’m talking about the presumption of innocence. And the second one is moral, but kind of the same. If you publish the article with this comments and then the allegations turn out false, you seem like enforcing the worst aspect of the cancel culture.

If the allegations were proven justified, then I would agree with you.
