This is very interesting and you pose very important issues; it is especially interesting that you go against the standard reaction which would be to assume this was an abdcution against the young woman’s will. But if I was your supervisor I would not approve this research. Partly because it is dangerous: you run the risk of finding yourself in possession of information which you would rather not have; partly because you are an anthropologist and not a detective looking to inquire (possibly) into criminal behaviour. I am of course not saying you have done anything wrong, nor that your intentions are anything but honourable and scientific. But there are risks which doctoral students should be discouraged from taking in their capacity as students. If you do his as a personal project independently of your PhD study that is your own responsibility and another matter. (I write in the light of recent shocking and unbearable case of the Italian student who was murdered in Cairo - Giulio Regeni.)
