What? Open Unit is another in the ongoing series of Smith and Willing films by Paul Antick. With music by Luke Seomore, Open Unit was made in 2024 in the vicinity of the former psychiatric hospital at Törnävä in Seinäjoki, Finland.

Why? “The appearance of a new Smith film from Paul Antick is a source of genuine joy… I find myself marvelling at the simplicity of their conceit, and the complexity of what thoughts and feelings they induce. I often find myself laughing, or at least wanting to… Smith walks with aimless purpose, at one point even heading straight for a brick wall – just as we all are perhaps doing in the contemporary world.”

What? State of Address explores India’s ‘Paper Tiger’ bureaucracy through the lens of a small waiting room within the Delhi Development Authority, a major government department for public housing and infrastructure in New Delhi, India. The waiting room is the first of many such spaces that people must navigate as they attempt to make sense of a sprawling government body.

Why? “I love Ikuno Naka’s and Garima Jaju’s film State of Address… it is an anthro-art doc. A ‘fly on the wall’ ‘slow film’.” Paul Antick
